James Hill is showing the String Along Ukulele Club of Dundas, Ontario a thing or two. The members had no idea he was coming. They thought the local paper photographer was coming, but he didn’t fool them for long when he walked in. Needless to say, they were thrilled!

Elayne and Norm with James at the “An Evening with James Hill” concert in Waterdown Ontario. String Along Ukulele hosted the concert to promote the ukulele for its students and local uke enthusiasts. Close to 400 people attended. As usual, James left the audience howling with delight.

This is a group shot of all the Canadians who attended the 2008 Portland Uke Fest. Our numbers have increased since 2006. The uke is catching on folks! This year’s uke fest (June 2009) was bigger than ever with more teachers and more professional acts.
Some interesting, moderately priced, lunchbox ukuleles were for sale, alongside the high end ones (not shown) which ranged from $500.00 - $2,000.

Here’s a group shot of most of the people who attended the 2008 Portland Uke Fest. What a blast that was, to be totally immersed in a pure ukulele culture for several days, away from the rest of the world!

The Portland Uke Fest is held at Reed College in Oregon. The acreage is spacious and beautiful and the buildings are majestic! Here is one of the outdoor sessions. Aaron Keim (standing with the banjo uke), is teaching the “clawhammer” ukulele style to the crowd.

Yes, Ladies and gentlemen, this is a real, functional ukulele! Looks like it was made from an old phonograph record player. All you need is the RCA dog looking at it. The thing actually worked!
